Six fields a month show whether your plan is really working
Starting balance, APR, payment made, interest charged, ending balance, and payoff rank. The interest field teaches the most.
Hypothetical example: of the first $500 payment, about $182 went to interest — only $318 reduced principal.
In the same example, a $2,500 balance at 28% APR fell only to about $2,382 after eight months of $65 minimums.
About $4,038 of principal gone (67% of payments) and about $1,962 paid in interest. That rising percentage is the motivation metric.
Update on one fixed date: copy balances and interest, confirm payments posted, note rate changes. That is the whole routine.
